In the 6th round of Liga 1, Universitatea Cluj faced CSMS Iași at home and won by a score of 2-0.

The first half saw "U" score two goals that would clinch their first home victory of the season. Chances from Musăt (10') and Mengolo (15') foreshadowed Nuno Viveiros' goal in the 22nd minute that followed a Stojanovic pass. Mihalache fired apowerful shot on goal 10 minutes later only to see his effort saved by Veselovsky. In 37th minute,"U" won a penalty when Mitic fouled Stojanovic in the box that Mușat converted a minute later to double "U"'s lead. Lopes had a good chance to reduce "U"'s lead in first half injury time, but Veselovsky saved his effort well. Stojanovic had a strong second half as he had two great chances (in the 64th and 74th minutes) as well as a number of key tackles and two great passes: one to set up Boutadjine in the 53rd minute and the other for Costin in the 81st minute. Crețu missed Iași's best chance in the second half as his shot from 9 meters went over the bar (58'). The final whistle marked a win that reassured "U"'s fans after "U" went two matches without a win.

So far, Nuno Viveiros is Universitatea's top scorer with 3 goals while strikers Jula and Mengolo have yet to score a goal. The match saw Achim make his debut for "U".

Next Sunday, September 7th at 17:30, Mihai Teja's players will face the Ukrainian champions, Shakhtar Donetșk, in a friendly match. In the next round of Liga 1, "U" will play away to Rapid București on Sunday, September 14th at 18:30.
