Universitatea defeated Rapid București at home in the 24th round of Liga 1 by a score of 1-0.
The first chance of the game came through Ceppelini, whose shot from 25 meters out in the 5th minute was held by Buchta. Rapid responded quickly through Nicuale, whose shot in the 7th minute was saved by Veselovsky for a corner. The very same Veselovsky made another great save in the 33rd minute as he tipped Garai's shot from 20 meters over the bar. Mengolo took a corner kick in the 40th minute that was headed over the bar by Lungu. The end of the first half saw Niculae's effort at the near post saved once again by Veselovsky. As such, the score at the end of the first half was 0-0.
The start of the second half saw Niculae's shot from inside the box get blocked for a corner in the 49th minute. Seven minutes later, Falub's players managed to break the deadlock through Castillion who put away Viveiros' cross following a mistake from Rapid's goalkeeper. Mengolo put in a cross across the face of goal in the 78th minute, but Čmovš managed to clear it for a corner. Two minutes later, Dan's shot from 18 meters out was punched away by "U"'s goalie. The final whistle from Kovacs sealed the "Red Caps'" first win in the second half of the 2014-2015 Liga 1 season as well as their 35th win against Rapid București.
The derby between the two teams is the oldest one in Liga 1. The match marked Universitatea Cluj's 1,600th match in Liga 1 as well as Cristian Munteanu's debut for "U" and Castillion's first goal for "U". This win was Adrian Falub's first for Universitatea Cluj in Liga 1.
