Universitatea Cluj lost away to Rapid București in the 7th round of Liga 1 by a score of 2-1.

The start of the 89th meeting between the two sides was marked by a moment of silence in honor of Călin Zanc, a former player for "U" who passed away this week. Ionuț Neag put the ball in Rapid's net in the 2nd minute only to have his goal called back for a foul on the goalie. Twenty minutes later, Coman's free kick was held by Veselovksy. Gravenberch recovered an errant back-pass from one of Rapid's defenders only to miss the ball completely when he tried to pass to Stojanovic in the 35th minute. Three minutes later, Larențiu Buș, who had played for "U" previously, broke the deadlock with a finesse shot from outside the 18 yard box.

The second half saw Roșu shoot wide of "U"'s goal in the 56th minute before Nicolae Mușat equalized for "U" five minutes later from a penalty won by Nuno Viveiros. Paulinho, on his first touch of the ball following an excellent pass from Gravenberch, put his shot one on one with Bornescu wide of the far post. At the end of normal time, Bucșa put a header following a corner just over the bar only for Călin to score Rapid's second goal from outside the box in the last minute of injury time. The final whistle marked a win for the home side.

Emil Ninu and Nicoale Mușat have played every minute in all of "U"'s matches in Liga 1 so far this season. The match marked the debuts of George Ogăraru, Alfons Groenendijk and Alin Dincă on "U"'s coaching staff as well as Danzell Gravenberch's and Paulinho's debuts on the field.

Next round, Universitatea Cluj will face CSU Craiova at home on Monday, September 22nd at 21:00.
