On Wednesday, Universitatea Cluj played away to FC Brașov in the Round of 16 of the Romanian Cup. Ogăraru's players came away with a 1-3 win at the end of regulation. 

After a cagey start to the match, Ganea scored for Brașov following a rebound from a shot from Ciocălteu only to have it waived off for offside. After having two shots at Marinescu's goal in the 14th and 15th minutes, Gravenberch passed the ball in the 18th minute to Lemnaru, who scored his first goal since he returned to "U". "The students" kept the pressure on Brașov and managed to double their lead 4 minutes later through Ceppelini, who scored following a cross from Lemnaru. Brașov managed to cut into "U"'s lead in the 28th minute through Machado, who scored with a header following a cross from a corner kick. "U" struck again on the brink of halftime as Ceppelini scored another goal, this time following a pass from Costin.

FC Brașov got back into the match at the start of the second half as Ganea's shot in the 47th minute from 16 meters out hit the crossbar. The home side kept trying to cut into the deficit and almost did so through Leko, whose header went just wide of "U"'s goal in the 58th minute. "U", on the other hand, had chances as well as Kovacs and Costin both saw their shots in the 71st and 81st minutes, respectively, go wide of Marinescu's goal. Mengolo missed a great chance in the 75th minute following an excellent cross from Ciupe across the face of goal. Leko had another chance for Brașov before the end of the match, but his header hit the crossbar in the 84th minute. The final whistle from Petrescu marked a 1-3 win for "U" and, consequently, a spot in the Quarterfinals.

Ogăraru's squad's next match is on Saturday, November 1st at 15:30 when they will play away to Gaz Metan Mediaș in the 13th round of Liga 1.
