Universitatea lost away to FC Botoșani in the 5th round of Liga 1 by a score of 1-0.

The first half was fairly dull; marked by a yellow card for each side (Calcan in the 10th minute; Acsinte in the 17th) as well as a disproportionate number of fouls (16 commited by Botoșani and 4 by "U") and only two chances. Martinus' shot went over Veselovsky's goal in the 33rd minute while Calcan's shot in the 35th was held by Curileac.

In the second half, substitute Svichi's shot was held by "U"'s Slovakian goalkeeper in the 49th minute while Nuno Viveiros' belter of a shot went wide in the 70th. The 71st minute saw referee Cojocaru give a penalty to the home side incorrectly following an alleged foul by Veselovsky on Batin. The penalty was scored by Vasvari in the 73rd minute. Towards the end of the match, Batin missed a great chance one on one with Veselovsky as his shot went wide of the far post. The final whistle marked "U"'s second defeat this season.
