Defeat against the Ukrainian champions

2014-09-08 23:38:43

Univeristatea Cluj's friendly match against Mircea Lucescu's Shaktar Donetșk - which finished 0-2 for the Ukrainian champions - marked George Ogăraru and Alfons Groenendijk's debuts in "U"'s coaching staff as well as Gil Bahia and Danzell Gravenberch's debuts on the pitch. Remus Cămpeanu presented the away side's coach an "U" jersey signed by the whole team.

The 16th minute saw the first chance of the match for Shaktar as Douglas Costa's shot went just wide of Veselovksy's goal. Fernando scored the first goal of the match just 10 minutes later in the 26th minute. Mengolo went one on one with Shaktar's goalie only to see his shot saved for a corner (36th minute). In the second half, Boutadjine missed a good chance from a free kick. Three minutes later, Taison doubled Shaktar's lead as he scored in an empty net. "U"''s newest signing, Gravenberch, put Anton's goal under pressure with chances in the 70th and 71st minutes. The end of the match saw Ogăraru's side miss two more chances as Mengolo shot straight at Shaktar's keeper following a pass from Paulinho while Ciupe's free kick was held by Anton, leaving the final score (0-2) unchanged. Mircea Lucescu was impressed by Universitatea's fans, who supported their team throughout the entire match.

On Sunday, September 14th at 18:30, "U" will play away to Rapid București in the 7th round of Liga 1.
