Universitatea Cluj faced Pandurii Tărgu-Jiu at home in the Quarterfinals of the Romanian Cup. Ogăraru's players came out on top at the end of normal time and won the game by a score of 1-0.
The first half was dominated by the away side which managed to create a number of good scoring chances. The first chance of the game came when Panaggopoulos saved Nistor's shot from 20 meters out for a corner in the 10th minute. A couple of seconds later, Răduț hit the crossbar with a header following a corner. Roman had three chances to score in the first half (in the 16th, 20th, and 40th minutes), but none of his shots were on target. Răduț's shots in the 18th and 24th minutes weren't on target either, but both went just wide. As for the home side, Gilwa saved Costin's shot in the 26th minute for a corner, Lemnaru's freekick in the 30th minute went over the bar, and another long range shot from Costin was held by the away side's keeper in the 41st minute.
In the second half, bringing Ceppelini onto the field proved to be an inspired move as the young Uruguayan scored a superb volley at the far post in the 56th minute from the right wing. The students' goal came from an excellent pass from Universitatea's star man - Vasilică Cristocea. Two minutes later, the same Ceppelini set up Škvorc, but his header was held by Gliwa. Panagopoulos managed to hold shots from Anton (in the 65th minute) and Răduț (in the 69th minute). The best chance of the half came when Lemnaru put Costin's cross over the bar from 3 meters out in the 82nd minute. After the five minutes of added time had passed, the scoreboard marked "U"'s 1-0 win as well as the club's first Romanian Cup Semifinal appearance in 19 years!
