Universitatea Cluj won their match in the 17th round of Liga 1 away to Ceahlăul Piatra-Neamț by a score of 0-6. This was Universitatea's greatest margin of victory in an away match in their history. 

Ogăraru's players showed their will to win all three points from the start of the match as the first chance of the match came when Costin's shot from 25 meters out in the 4th minute went just wide of Calancea's goal. Ceppelini and Lemnaru each had a chance to score as well in the 11th and 19th minutes, respectively. Florin Marin's players responded to the pressure through Chitoșca, whose shot at the near post was saved by Panagopoulos for a corner in the 22nd minute. Ceahlăul's goalie fouled Mengolo in the box a few minutes later and was sent off by Comănescu, the referee. The penalty was taken and converted by "U"'s captain Lemnaru in the 26th minute. The "students" didn't take their foot off the gas as Viveiros' shot three minutes later went just wide of Jovici's goal, who came on after Calancea was sent off. The end of the first half saw Mengolo score two superb goals in the 44th and 45+3rd minutes.

In the second half, Ceppelini's shot in the 49th minute and Costin's bicycle kick in the 55th minute went wide of Jovici's goal. In the 60th minute, "U"'s Cameroonian went on the scoresheet for the third time and extended "U"'s lead to 0-4. Nine minutes later, Lemnaru scored another penalty kick after Kovacs won the spot kick shortly after he came on to the field. Ten minutes before the end of normal time, Gorea deflected Paulinho's shot into his own net. The final whistle from Comănescu gave "U" 3 important points that took them out of the relegation zone.

The match against Ceahlăul is the first this season in which Universitatea didn't have a single player yellow carded. Mengolo's hat-trick has made him the team's joint top scorer along with Lemnaru, Mușat and Vivieros, who have all scored three goals this season as well. Ninu's time on the field during this match has made him the player with the most minutes played this season for "U". Universitatea scored 6 goals this match - matching the total number of away goals that they've scored away from home this season prior to this match. 

On Saturday, December 13th, Ogăraru's players will play away to Dinamo București in the Quarterfinals of the League Cup at 20:00.
